She was sitting in the dormitory; hallway on one of the three chairs with odd green colour, which stood by a round, low coffee table.
This place was usually empty. Students were at their lectures or preferred to study in their own rooms.
She; however, preferred more open spaces, because the four walls of her room limited her great mind - at least this is what she claimed with a smile when someone asked.
The real reason; however, was that her little claustrophobia teased her in her small room and her roommate never let anyone turn her music down.
Katie; - because that was the name of her friend, did it on purpose. She did it to upset their next room neighbours.
She claimed that she only wants to drown the racket they make, out. But the idea of this sabotage came from Katie’s deeply broken heart, who got rejected by one of the boys living there.
What she wanted to drown out? Their neighbours had something sort of the band. They practiced their mainly acoustic music few times a week for a few hours. Sometimes you could hear melancholic melodies in the middle of the night.
Katie considered it as anguish and torment.
Luckily both sides rarely confronted on the hallway. The schedule wouldn’t let that happen, for what she was very grateful. Who knows what Katie would be able to do in moments of desperation.
She herself, didn’t mind the music created by their neighbours; she was already used to it, and even kind of enjoyed those gentle melodies.
However, she never got a chance to share her opinion with these aspiring musicians. Since the year started, she had only seen them once or twice in the hallway. Not counting the lectures and other shared classes; during of which, if she had any luck, they would sit in front of her. She had a great view of the back of their heads. Sometimes, if she was sitting close enough, she could see what they were writing. Surely, they weren’t the lecture notes. She thought they were some kind of poems, but then she came to the logical conclusion that this has to be a song lyrics. Pretty good ones, too. Genius even! If only they could spread at least one of them and show it to the world, undoubtedly they would become a famous musicians.
However, she has never spoken to them. Sometimes she wanted to say 'hello' after classes and say what she thought about their lyrics, but it never happened. Although, it never bothered her. She had no time to look for friends now, she had to be extremely focused on her purpose and studies. Especially now, when everything seemed to be finally okay. Because, it was the reason why she came her on the first place, to study… to achieve something and escape from the hole she was in for so long now.
She was determined to achieve what she came here for. And she was almost sure that nothing and certainly no one was going to stop her…. Almost sure.
I hope you liked it. I was trying to do my best.
